WHAT helps you lose weight, improves brain function, eases digestion, prevents sprains by lubricating joints, keeps you youthful and boosts energy during exercise?

Water, that’s what. Plain old tap juice — and it’s free.

But problems such as the outbreak of the parasite cryptosporidium in Galway, which left residents without tap water for weeks, mean a growing number of people are concerned about the quality of what comes out of our taps.

One solution is to install a water filter at home.

Water is boring to some kids, but essential to drink often!  This summer, it’s important to keep your kids hydrated.  How much water should your kids be drinking?  New recommendations do not have a specific amount.  With different climates, activity level, and genetics, everyone needs a different amount.  A tried and true rule of thumb is the pee test!

So, for letter-W, we are talking about flavoring up water!  We love plain old water here, but sometimes to mix it up (or for fancy dinners and celebrations), we also like to add flavor to our water.  Of the many delicious add-ins to water, our favorite is lemon slices and mint leaves!  My sister in law made this for our last family party, and it was delicious!! The warmer weather makes it more essential to stay hydrated but if you can’t face another glass of water try munching on slices of cucumber. Despite the recent scare, Irish cucumbers are OK.

The flesh of cucumbers is primarily made up of water but also contains vitamin C and caffeic acid, both of which help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling.

Make your glass of water more exciting by tearing up some fresh mint leaves and leave to steep in water before drinking. A slice of lemon or lime also makes it more appetising.
